Job Koelewijn – Langbaanvelden
Curator - Thérèse Legierse
Deurne, Belgie, 2015
The context
Langbaanvelden, a district of the 1970s, is characterized, among other things, by dead ends that create squares that serve as a meeting place for residents. Barbecues in this region are famous. Although the neighbourhood turns its back on the airport, the inhabitants are not disturbed by it. The comings and goings of planes make residents dream of distant destinations.
The commission
Based on the idea of the Mortselsesteenweg stopping at the airport site, the sponsors expressed the desire for a work of art that would respond to the idea of "looking further".
Job Koelewijn therefore presents a work of art that, with ever-changing objectives, makes the viewer look at the planes that go up and down again and again in a different way.
